Globalization and digitalization ensure that everything and everyone is connected at all times, able to communicate with each other. Local developments or events can have a rapid global impact. This makes the future uncertain, unpredictable.

Artificial versus human intelligence
The development of (new functionalities of) artificial intelligence (AI) is progressing rapidly. AI can and is already being used in various ways and can have an impact on, for example, the job market, healthcare, and education. It's also making its way into the hobby world: digital crafting and drawing are so popular that workshops and courses are already available.

Kidults
The boundaries between young and old have been blurring for several years. Adults have or create more time and space to play, to be "childish": kidults. For example, the Dutch "Toy of the Year Election" already has a category dedicated to the "kidult, 18+" target group. The toys are often slightly more challenging, with components slightly smaller than those in children's or family versions.

Green reality check
Many people are beginning to notice the impact of climate change. Extreme weather conditions, rising food prices, and higher energy costs directly affect personal health and finances. The result: more environmentally conscious consumers who want openness and clarity from brands. Sustainability is gradually becoming not just a unique selling proposition (USP), but essential for survival as a brand or manufacturer.

The sustainability goals of many retailers have become more ambitious. We also see that more transparent communication is taking place on the subject. This includes providing sustainable delivery options for online orders or mentioning a sustainability score for products.

Consumer value is more than just money
The value that customers attach to a brand is no longer solely dependent on price and product. The social and emotional value of brands is becoming increasingly important. Consumers want to connect with the brand, to identify with it. The heritage of a brand, combined with nostalgic elements, strengthens consumer trust in the brand. This makes the brand also a anchor, a stable factor in a rapidly changing world.

Artificial intelligence in retail
The ways in which artificial intelligence (AI) can be used on websites, in online shops, and physical stores are expanding. By adding AI, an effective, personalized shopping experience is created. Think, for example, of personalized recommendations, chatbots in customer service, and self-checkout. 

 

Educational Trends

More technology in the classroom
Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities and challenges in education. On one hand, assignments are completely made by ChatGPT, so the student doesn't learn much from it. On the other hand, AI supports the learning process by personalizing it. The popularity of immersive learning with, for example, holograms, virtual, and augmented reality has also greatly increased.

Differentiation and personalized learning
Every student learns in a different way. Teachers and parents increasingly feel the need to provide tailored education. The goal is to ensure that all students are challenged, learn, and grow at their own level. According to a UNESCO report, receiving appropriate education is even a human right, as it reduces inequality.

Inclusive education
There is increasing attention to diversity in the classroom and quality education for everyone, regardless of background, gender, ethnicity, economic conditions, physical or mental limitations, etc. This is also a global focus, for example, from the United Nations. By breaking down these barriers, every student has a fair chance to grow, learn, and bring out the best in themselves and others.
